Glossary

Again, Hard, Good, Easy
The four ratings you give a card after seeing its answer. They tell Engram how well you remembered it. See Study.

Backlink
A link to the current note from some other note. Shown on the right of the Notes screen.

Card
One flashcard, with a front (the prompt) and a back (the answer).

Cloze
A card that hides part of a sentence for you to fill in, written as {{c1::hidden words}}. See Decks and cards.

Deck
A group of cards. Decks can be nested with ::, like Japanese::N5.

Due
A card is due when it’s time to review it again. The Due counter in the top bar shows how many cards are waiting today.

Explain
A free, offline summary of a note. See Explain.

Focus label
Your own word for what a profile is about, like a subject or course. Labels don’t change how anything works.

FSRS
The scheduling method Engram uses to decide when each card comes back. Short for Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler.

Learning
A new or forgotten card that’s still going through its short first steps (minutes apart) before it moves to longer gaps.

Pack
A theme. Engram has seven built-in packs, and you can make your own. See Themes.

Profile
A separate workspace with its own notes, cards, theme and timers. See Profiles.

Reduce effects
A setting that turns off blur, glow, motion and background gradients for a calmer, faster interface.

Spaced repetition
Reviewing things at growing intervals, just before you’d forget them. It’s one of the most reliable ways to remember things long term.

Suspend
Take a card out of study without deleting it. Suspended cards show as HOLD.

Tutor
The optional AI chat assistant. Paid add-on, and it needs an AI provider. See AI tutor.

Vault
The folder where a profile’s notes and database are kept. See Your data.

Wikilink
A link between notes written in double square brackets, like [[Particles]].
